Home Success Stories Steve Day

Steven Day is a 21 year old young man who is on the Autistic Spectrum.  Prior to coming to Jobsteps he had completed a BTEC Media Marketing Course Level 3 at College.  After finishing his college course he wanted to progress his career in the Media Industry and contacted Jobsteps. steve day_1

Steven initially came onto our Community Outreach Programme and gained valuable support from his Key Worker at Manor and Castle.   We work in close partnership with Key Workers and in consultation with Steven, our Employment Consultant and his Key Worker it was decided that a 30 session work placement would be the best way to develop Steven’s experience in the Media industry.

It took quite a while to source a suitable placement in Media as it is a competitive industry and opportunities were scarce.  We eventually found Steven a placement at Sheffield Live, a local radio station.

Steven works on the Communities Live programme, which informs listeners of local events each week.  Steven does research on local events before the programme goes on air.  He then has a spot where he broadcasts his findings.  Steven is hardworking, conscientious and reliable and has become a valued member of the team.

Sheffield Live is a friendly supportive environment where Steven is building on his Media skills.  He has also gone back to College to further his Media qualifications and his placement is providing valuable work experience.
